HebrewOnline newsletter Issue #21 October 2007 eTeacher Group
Shalom and welcome to the HebrewOnline newsletter,
The holiday of Sukkot occurs in-between summer and winter in Israel. The Israeli summer is dry and hot and there is no rain at all. Wintertime, on the other hand, is characterized by rain and cooler weather. By the end of summer, most of the water resources are exhausted and, therefore, during the time of Sukkot, Jewish people pray for rainfall. In the days of the Temple, these prayers were accompanied by dance, music, and songs of praise to God. This celebration was called "Rejoicing at the Place of the Water-Drawing".

In the spirit of this celebration, we devote this week's newsletter to issues related to water.
