If I have no background in Hebrew and would like to learn Hebrew in order to better study the Bible in it's original text, should I first take the beginner class A or skip right to beginner Bible class? 10-11-2008

Hi, I'm after the translation of "above rubies" I've got a transliteration as "rachok mip'ninim", but I think that's more like "beyond perals". I want a direct translation (that makes sense still) of "above (more than/higher than/worth more than) rubies"

Hi, this might be a very strange post.
But, i assure you that we received a very mysterious mail. My friend and i received a express mail with bubble protection envelope. We were very curious about the content. And when we opened it we discover a ziploc bag containing a letter plus a scott's towels protecting a dirty panties. This envoys wasn't addresses to us.
We do not known hebrew language and we are seeking for a fast translation. Please help us to understand the letter. So we can investigate more...

Hi,
You may have received a translation by now, but if not, I tried to translate this. I had a lot of trouble as there are a bunch of acronyms and some of this is in Aramaic... Maybe someone can fill in the word that I couldn't figure out.

I know the following two sentences are correctly written:
יש לו מורה טוב
יש להם מורה טוב
But this is the first time I've seen this...
דאני בעל מורה טוב
הסטודנטים בעלי מורה טוב
Does בעל mean 'to have'?

I understand that "Jessica" is derived from the the Biblical "Jesca", but I was wondering, how would the name "Jessica" be written out in modern times in Hebrew? A name converter site recommended it be spelled "גסיקה" with a gimmel, but then, would it sound right, or would a yod be more appropriate? I wonder if there are any Jessicas who have moved to Israel and who spell their name any certain way.

What rule(s), if any, exist that govern the use of Aleph (or Ayin, for that matter) when the letter is not pointed. For example, were I to hear the first word in Genesis (b'reshet), how would I know to include an unpointed Aleph when writing the word as heard?

Hi all!
Today I decided that I am to learn Hebrew. I have been longing for seven years atleast to visit Israel and/or learn Hebrew. First of all though, I would like to get to learn how to write, read and pronounce the sentence "Belongs to God". I have been planning on making a tatoo with that. If anyone could send to my email, the correct Hebrew translation of that sentence, both in "english text" and "hebre glyphs".
